About chondrites: Stony chondrites make up more than 75% of meteorite falls and are comprised of rocky materials and small silicate grains known as chondrules. When they enter the Earth's atmosphere, they usually gain a dark brown crust on their exterior from the heat and velocity before impact known as a fusion crust.
